Max’s SharePlay feature now accessible to all ad-free subscribers on iOS

HBO Max, now rebranded as Max, recently expanded its SharePlay feature to users globally. Initially launched for Apple devices in the US, SharePlay is now accessible to all Max subscribers with Ad-Free and Ultimate Ad-Free plans worldwide. This feature enables users to host and join watch parties over FaceTime and iMessage, regardless of their location.

To utilize SharePlay, users can initiate watch parties by selecting the “share” button on the title’s details section or within the FaceTime app. Each session can accommodate up to 32 participants, all of whom must be Max subscribers. Unfortunately, individuals residing in regions where Max is not yet available, like certain Asian countries, cannot participate in watch parties with friends from the US or Europe. Warner Bros. intends to expand Max’s presence to South East Asia later this year, although the timeline remains subject to change.

SharePlay is compatible with iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs, and Vision Pro headsets. To start a watch party on iPhones, iPads, and Vision Pros, users need to locate the Share icon on the show or movie details page, input the desired contacts, and initiate a FaceTime call. Alternatively, selecting Messages on mobile devices prompts friends to join the SharePlay session. On Apple TV, users must first open FaceTime, then click the SharePlay button and select Max from the app list.

This expansion of SharePlay underscores Max’s commitment to enhancing the viewing experience and fostering social connections among its global user base. By enabling seamless watch parties across different devices and locations, Max continues to innovate in the realm of streaming services, offering subscribers new ways to enjoy content together.
