Connor Stalions Set to Feature in Netflix Documentary ‘Sign Stealer’

A new Netflix documentary titled “Sign Stealer” is set to shed light on the infamous sign-stealing scandal that rocked college football last season. The documentary, part of Netflix’s “Untold” series, is scheduled to premiere on August 27 and will delve into the controversy surrounding former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions.

The upcoming Netflix release was announced alongside two other documentaries, one focusing on the 2009 murder of Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair and another on U.S. soccer star Hope Solo. However, it is the “Sign Stealer” documentary that has garnered significant attention, promising to provide a firsthand account from Connor Stalions himself, the central figure in the scandal that sent shockwaves through the college football community.

Directed by Micah Brown, a former Kansas football player with experience in sports documentaries, including work for ESPN’s “30-for-30” series and the Peacock series “WWE Evil,” the film aims to offer a unique perspective on the events that transpired. Stalions, who was accused of orchestrating a scheme to gather video footage of opponents’ signals by purchasing tickets for games involving Michigan’s rivals, will share his side of the story in the documentary.

The scandal led to an NCAA investigation and resulted in Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh being suspended for the final three regular-season games due to violations of the Big Ten’s sportsmanship policy. Stalions resigned from his position at Michigan in November amidst the fallout from the controversy, maintaining a low profile and refraining from public statements regarding his involvement.

Despite the turmoil, Michigan managed to overcome the adversity and went on to win the national championship. Following the victorious season, Harbaugh made the transition to the NFL, joining the Los Angeles Chargers.

“Sign Stealer” joins a lineup of college football documentaries released by Netflix, including “Johnny Football,” which focused on former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, and “Swamp Kings,” a documentary exploring Florida under Urban Meyer.

As anticipation builds for the premiere of “Sign Stealer” on Netflix, viewers can expect a compelling and revealing account of a scandal that forever altered the landscape of college football.
