Max Original Series “Dune: Prophecy” to Premiere on HBO alongside “The Penguin”
HBO is set to bring back two original series, The Penguin and Dune: Prophecy, which are scheduled to debut later this year on HBO and Max. This move follows the recent announcement that Lanterns, Harry Potter, and Welcome to Derry will also become HBO originals upon their premiere in 2025.
The Penguin, featuring Colin Farrell reprising his role from The Batman, is slated to premiere in September. The star-studded cast includes Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Theo Rossi, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, and Michael Zegen.
On the other hand, Dune: Prophecy is a prequel set 10,000 years before the events of the Dune films and novels. The series boasts a talented ensemble cast including Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jihae, Tabu, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, and Yerin Ha. The premiere date for this series is yet to be announced.
According to Deadline, the decision to move these two series to HBO is part of a broader strategy to rebrand high-profile titles as HBO Originals, allowing them to air both on the premium cable network and for streaming audiences. Initially, there was uncertainty about whether The Penguin and Dune: Prophecy would fall under this new branding, but this has now been clarified.
