Netflix’s ‘3 Body Problem’ to Conclude with Season 3

Netflix’s sci-fi series “3 Body Problem” is set to conclude with its third season. The announcement was made during the show’s Netflix FYSEE panel on Friday, confirming that the second and third installments will air before the series wraps up. This news follows the show’s renewal in mid-May during Netflix’s upfront presentation in New York City. The extent of the renewal was previously unclear, but now viewers can look forward to a complete journey through this epic saga.

“We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion,” said creators David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo in a joint statement. They expressed their excitement about bringing the audience along to the end of the universe with them. The three seasons of “3 Body Problem” are expected to mirror Cixin Liu’s “Remembrances of Earth’s Past” trilogy, consisting of “The Three-Body Problem,” “The Dark Forest,” and “Death’s End.”

The series, based on the books, revolves around a woman’s crucial decision in 1960s China during the Cultural Revolution. This decision becomes intertwined with a group of Oxford friends decades later, who are drawn into facing an alien threat with the potential to annihilate humanity. Currently, Season 1 of “3 Body Problem” is available for streaming on Netflix.

Benioff and Weiss recently extended their exclusive multi-year deal with Netflix to continue their work on “3 Body Problem” and other projects, including the historical drama “Death by Lightning” starring Michael Shannon and Matthew Macfadyen. Fans can anticipate the upcoming seasons to delve deeper into the intricate storyline and explore the complex relationships between the characters as they navigate through a world threatened by extraterrestrial forces.
