Dev Patel’s ‘Monkey Man’ to Debut on Peacock: Premiere Date Announced
Dev Patel’s directorial debut, the action thriller “Monkey Man,” will start streaming on Peacock on June 14. The film had a successful theatrical run via Universal Pictures, grossing over $34 million globally and premiering to critical acclaim at South by Southwest.
Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, the revenge flick features Patel as a man scarred by a brutal past, making a living in underground fighting rings. When he discovers a way to infiltrate the corrupt elite of his city, he embarks on a campaign for retribution against those who wronged him in his youth, emerging as an unexpected hero.
The cast of “Monkey Man” includes Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, Vipin Sharma, Sikandar Kher, and Pitobash Tripathi. Patel co-wrote the script with Paul Angunawela and John Collee.
Producers of the film include Jomon Thomas, Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld, Ian Cooper, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Christine Haebler, Sam Sahni, and Anjay Nagpal. Before “Monkey Man,” Patel appeared in A24’s “The Green Knight” and various Wes Anderson shorts based on Roald Dahl’s stories. Upcoming projects for Patel include Bryn Chainey’s horror film “Rabbit Trap” and the twisted romance “Wicker” with Olivia Colman.
