Netflix plans to increase NFL games as league negotiates media rights deals

Netflix is eyeing an expansion of its NFL game offerings, hoping to go from two games to a four-game package. According to the Wall Street Journal, Netflix is looking to include the NFL’s new Thanksgiving Eve game and an international game to enhance its sports and live events portfolio and attract more subscribers and advertisers.

This year marks the final year of Netflix’s three-year deal to air games on Christmas. As the NFL renegotiates its media rights deals with all broadcast partners, they aim to create smaller broadcast packages of four or five games to offer to streaming services like Netflix.

Other platforms like YouTube and Amazon have also shown interest in adding more NFL games to their content lineup. With the recent addition of live sports programming such as boxing, WWE, and Major League Baseball, Netflix is looking to diversify its offerings and cater to a wider audience.

Fans may also get to enjoy more MLB games on Netflix, following a recent $50 million-a-year deal. While Netflix’s first MLB game got mixed reviews, the streaming service plans to cover popular events like the Home Run Derby and the Field of Dreams game in the upcoming seasons.

The NFL, ESPN, and other stakeholders are working to make NFL games more accessible to viewers through various streaming services, and Netflix is eager to enhance its sports content to engage fans and attract new viewers.
