Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis Chemistry as Sisters in Scarpetta: Prime Video Review

Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis are set to star in Prime Video’s upcoming series Scarpetta, based on Patricia Cornwell’s popular “Kay Scarpetta” mystery novels. Kidman will play the role of forensic pathologist Dr. Kay Scarpetta, while Curtis will portray her older sister Dorothy. At first glance, I had my doubts about this sister pairing, but after watching the trailer, I can see some sparks of chemistry between them that may just convince me.

The dynamic between Dorothy and Kay, with Dorothy not taking any nonsense from her younger sister, seems intriguing. I’m particularly curious about how the show will address the portrayal of law enforcement, given the evolving social context since the books first gained popularity. The series creator and showrunner, Liz Sarnoff, known for her work on series like Lost, Deadwood, and Barry, gives me hope that she will bring a fresh and complex perspective to Cornwell’s stories.

In addition to Kidman and Curtis, the series will also feature Bobby Cannavale and Simon Baker, offering a diverse range of talent. The inclusion of a split timeline in the storytelling, with a younger cast depicting the characters two decades prior, adds an interesting dimension to the narrative. Notably, Jake Cannavale, Bobby’s son, will play the younger version of his father’s character, a choice that raises questions about nepotism in the industry but has been used effectively in other projects like Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

On a lighter note, seeing Kidman and Curtis attending an event in New York together, with their coordinated animal print and blouse outfits, adds an element of anticipation for their on-screen chemistry. This duo has me looking forward to potential press appearances for Practical Magic 2, possibly alongside Sandra Bullock. Overall, the casting choices and behind-the-scenes talent associated with Scarpetta have me intrigued and eager to see how the series unfolds.
