Waikoloa Village Residents to Participate in Hulu Holoholo Evacuation Drill
Residents of Waikoloa Village, mark your calendars! The Hulu Holoholo evacuation drill is happening on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 9-11 a.m. It’s a great opportunity to practice the community’s emergency evacuation route, starting from Hulu Street and ending at Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway.
This drill, which started in 2022 following the Mana Road fire, aims to ensure that residents are prepared in case of an emergency. Mayor Kimo Alameda emphasized the importance of practicing the route before a disaster strikes. The good news is that the route can accommodate low-clearance vehicles, making it accessible for everyone in the community.
Hulu Holoholo has been happening twice a year since 2024, providing residents, both part-year and local families, with more opportunities to familiarize themselves with the evacuation route. Additionally, the County of Hawaii is conducting an Evacuation Traffic Study to enhance safety during wildfires and other emergencies in Waikoloa Village. Residents can contribute to this study by completing an online survey until March 1.
So, if you’re a Waikoloa Village resident, don’t miss this chance to participate in the Hulu Holoholo evacuation drill and help make your community safer for everyone. Stay prepared and stay safe!
