Waikoloa Hulu Street Evacuation Drill: Weekend Schedule
This Saturday, on February 21st, residents of Waikoloa Village have an opportunity to learn more about their emergency evacuation route during the Hulu Street Evacuation Drill happening from 9 to 11 a.m.
Originally held once a year, this drill now takes place twice annually since 2024. This upcoming event aligns with the County of Hawaiʻi’s efforts to gather data, such as survey responses, to improve safety in Waikoloa Village and its surroundings in case of a wildfire or any other emergency situation. The online survey is open to the public until March 1, allowing community members to provide valuable feedback.
Participants in the drill, also referred to as Hulu Holoholo, will have the opportunity to drive through the evacuation route from Hulu Street to Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway. When exiting onto the highway, drivers will be directed to turn north (right). For those needing to travel south, a directional change can be made at Puako.
The drill has been in place since 2022 when the Mana Road fire led to the evacuation of Waikoloa Village in the previous year. Residents can view a video of the route at the following link: https://tinyurl.com/huluholoholo. To share your input through the survey, visit http://waikoloavillage.evacuationsurvey.com.
