Prime Video announces release date for adaptation of epic international bestseller

Get ready for some magic in your life, because the release date for Prime Video’s The House of the Spirits has been officially announced. The limited series, based on Isabel Allende’s bestseller, is set to premiere on 29 April. That’s just around the corner!

Following the Trueba family through multiple generations, The House of the Spirits is a groundbreaking tale in the magical realism genre. Inspired by Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s A Hundred Years of Solitude, this epic family saga dives into the lives of Clara, Blanca, and Alba as they navigate the social and political changes in an unnamed Latin American country.

With showrunners Francisca Alegría, Fernanda Urrejola, and Andrés Wood at the helm, this series is Prime Video’s most ambitious Latin American original yet. Javiera Balmaceda, Prime Video’s head of local originals, Latin America, Canada & Australia, expressed excitement about the series, emphasizing the platform’s commitment to elevating global storytelling.

Isabel Allende, the executive producer, was thrilled with the adaptation, calling it what it was always meant to be. The showrunners shared that Allende was supportive of their creative process, even allowing them to make changes as needed, including omitting characters.

Co-showrunner Urrejola highlighted the importance of the female-led narrative in The House of the Spirits, particularly in challenging patriarchal norms. She emphasized the relevance of this story in today’s context and the need to explore a more feminine perspective in storytelling.

The House of the Spirits, with contributions from Eva Longoria’s Hyphenate Media Group, will premiere on Prime Video on 29 April. Don’t miss this captivating tale of magic and family drama.
