Joel Kinnaman’s Departure from Sci-Fi Series 8 Years Ago
Joel Kinnaman, known for his roles in sci-fi series, made a smart move when he switched from a sinking show to a successful one. While he had experience in sci-fi before these two standout roles, they have become some of his most memorable performances. Fans of the DCU may recognize Kinnaman as Rick Flag Jr., a role he reprised in The Suicide Squad in 2021, with a brief return in Peacemaker season 2.
In 2019, Kinnaman joined the cast of Apple TV’s For All Mankind, making up for his exit from Altered Carbon in 2018. While Altered Carbon was a Blade Runner-esque cyberpunk series, For All Mankind is a grounded alt history space opera that explores a world where the Soviets won the Space Race. Kinnaman’s versatility shines in both shows, with a central role in For All Mankind since its launch in 2019.
Although Kinnaman only had one season in Altered Carbon, he is set to appear in his fifth season of For All Mankind. While his character’s future in the series seems uncertain due to the show’s time jumps, Kinnaman’s return as Ed Baldwin is highly anticipated. His impressive performance in both shows has solidified his place as a talented and versatile actor in the world of sci-fi entertainment.
