Judge Denies Request to Charge Journalist Don Lemon Following Minnesota Church Protest
Protests against the Trump administration’s immigration policies are ongoing, with recent developments in Minnesota catching the attention of many. A magistrate judge recently dismissed the attempt by federal prosecutors to charge journalist Don Lemon in relation to a church protest that took place in the state. Lemon, who was present at the church in St. Paul, has stated that he was there purely in a journalistic capacity, reporting on the events as they unfolded.
In a video shared on social media, Lemon explained, “Once the protest started in the church we did an act of journalism which was report on it and talk to the people involved, including the pastor, members of the church, and members of the organization. That’s it. That’s called journalism.” Despite this clarification, it remains to be seen what steps the Justice Department will take next in this matter.
Additionally, it was reported that Attorney General Pam Bondi announced the arrest of a woman who led the protest at the church service, which included disruptive chanting calling for “ICE out” and seeking “Justice for Renee Good.” The references made during the protest were to a recent tragic incident involving a 37-year-old mother of three who was fatally shot by an ICE officer in Minneapolis.
The situation continues to unfold, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available. Stay tuned for the latest developments in this story.
