Paramount+ Show Co-Creator Reveals Biggest On-Set Challenge

“Landman” has been a hit, and star Billy Bob Thornton couldn’t be happier. But like any show, it has its challenges. One of the biggest? Keeping Thornton’s beard dye consistent between scenes. However, according to co-creator Christian Wallace, the real hurdle is the scorching Texas summer heat.

Set in the Lone Star State, “Landman” films during the hottest parts of the year. While most scenes are shot around Fort Worth, outdoor takes in the dry Texas heat pose a challenge. Wallace, who co-created the show with Taylor Sheridan, explained to The Hollywood Reporter that filming in extreme heat isn’t easy.

As they gear up for season 3, set to film in May 2023, Wallace mentioned that starting later in the year means facing even more intense heat. “It’s going to be pretty full-on,” Wallace said, “just getting hotter.” The struggle of dealing with the Texas heat on a daily basis is a major production concern.

Despite the hardships, “Landman” continues to draw in audiences, promising a long run. Wallace highlighted the importance of outdoor shoots for the show’s gritty realism, despite the toll it takes on the cast and crew. With twelve-hour days in over 100-degree weather, it’s a tough gig.

To keep up with their release schedule, season 3 must start filming earlier in 2026. This means enduring a spring/summer filming block, ensuring a toasty shoot for Thornton and the crew. And who knows? Maybe we’ll finally see that beard continuity nailed down next season.
