Prime Video Analyst: Refs Missed Call Erasing Rams Touchdown
During the nail-biting Rams versus Seahawks game on Thursday night, the Los Angeles Rams had a touchdown wiped out by a penalty in the first quarter. Quarterback Matthew Stafford threw a one-yard pass to tight end Terrance Ferguson, only to have it nullified due to an ineligible man downfield penalty on guard Justin Dedich. The officiating crew’s decision left Rams coach Sean McVay and Stafford visibly frustrated on the sidelines.
But here’s where it gets interesting – Prime Video rules analyst Terry McAulay thinks the referees may have missed the call. According to McAulay, the penalty for an illegal man downfield on 4th-and-goal at the 1-yard line was unwarranted. In McAulay’s words, “He blocks a defensive line-on-line and he can drive him as far as he wants. He comes off contact and the defender actually pushes him by and actually forces him beyond that yard. So, it really isn’t a foul for him being illegally downfield because of that action.”
Coincidentally, just days before this controversial call, Rams star wideout Puka Nacua had some strong words about NFL referees during a livestream appearance. Nacua criticized the referees, suggesting that some of the rules weren’t fair and that officials may have personal motivations for certain calls.
Given Nacua’s recent comments, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport hinted that the player might face fines for his remarks. It’s safe to say that Nacua probably wasn’t thrilled with the apparent missed call on the field during the game against the Seahawks.
While it’s unclear how these controversies will play out in the coming days, one thing’s for sure – the NFL never fails to keep us on the edge of our seats with both thrilling gameplay and off-field drama. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story!
