Disney Plus Cancels Major Show Before Premiere
Disney+ recently made the tough call to cancel a highly-anticipated show based on the popular novel Holes by Louis Sachar. The show, which was set to be a unique take on the story focusing on teenage girls at a detention camp, had some big names attached to it like Shay Rudolph, Greg Kinner, and Aidy Bryant. Despite the pilot being filmed and directed by Jac Schaeffer, Disney+ ultimately decided not to move forward with the series.
This decision adds to a list of other cancellations Disney+ has made in the past, including shows like Big Shot, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, and the Willow reboot. Despite these setbacks, the streaming platform has found success with other young adult adaptations, like Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which has been renewed for a third season.
It’s unclear why Disney+ decided to cancel the Holes adaptation, but there could be many reasons behind the choice. Fans can only speculate what the show would have been like and what Disney+ subscribers will miss out on. This cancellation is part of a trend where Disney+ has had both successes and disappointments with its young adult content in recent years. While some shows like Percy Jackson have thrived, others have fallen by the wayside.
