Sports Thriller ‘Him’ Streaming Release Date on Peacock

Looking for a dose of sports-inspired drama to stream this month? You’re in luck because “Him” is coming to Peacock on December 19! This football-themed thriller follows the story of Cameron Cade (played by Tyriq Withers), a rising quarterback whose dreams of sports stardom are jeopardized when he’s attacked by an obsessed fan.

To get back on track, Cade receives a special invitation to train with his idol, star quarterback Isaiah White (portrayed by Marlon Wayans), at a secluded compound. What follows is a chilling and twisted game on the field, with appearances by Julia Fox, Tim Heidecker, Jim Jefferies, and MMA fighter Maurice Greene adding to the suspense.

Initially released in theaters in September, “Him” raked in $28 million worldwide, but despite the financial success, its reported $27 million budget left it in the red. Directed by Justin Tipping and written by Tipping, Zack Akers, and Skip Bronkie, the film was produced by Oscar-winner Jordan Peele under his Monkeypaw Productions banner.

Critics have not been entirely kind to “Him,” describing it as a storytelling stumble, resulting in a 30 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating and a 57 percent audience score. But amidst the criticism, Marlon Wayans’ performance and the film’s exploration of social issues have been highlighted as strengths.

Addressing the detractors, Wayans drew a parallel between “Him” and his past films like “White Chicks” and “Scary Movie,” suggesting that sometimes, movies ahead of their time need a second look to be truly appreciated. He encouraged viewers to give “Him” multiple viewings, referring to it as a cinematic rollercoaster that warrants repeat trips.

At 96 minutes long, “Him” promises to offer gripping entertainment that might just earn it a place among the classics. So, mark your calendars for December 19 and catch the action as it unfolds on Peacock!
