The Pentagon expressed its disagreement with the portrayal of the U.S.’s nuclear missile defense system in the movie.

In the film, it is suggested that the current missile defense system only has a 50 percent chance of intercepting a missile, despite its substantial cost. However, the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) stated in a memo that their interceptors have maintained a 100 percent accuracy rate in testing for over a decade.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bigelow shared her thoughts on the situation, highlighting the potential for cultural dialogue to impact policy. She emphasized the importance of discussions around nuclear proliferation.

The film’s screenwriter, Noah Oppenheim, pointed out that the debate should involve a broader community of experts in the field, such as Senator Edward Markey and various journalists who have long covered the issue. They support the film’s depiction of the missile defense system’s imperfections.

Despite the Pentagon’s statements that the film does not reflect the administration’s views, Bigelow explained her decision not to involve the Pentagon directly in the film’s production. She emphasized the importance of authenticity and realism in her work, drawing on her experience with previous war films.

While “A House of Dynamite” received mixed reviews from viewers on Netflix, it was well-received by critics. The film is now available for streaming on Netflix, offering an engaging take on the intricacies of nuclear warfare and missile defense systems.
