NBA Season Tips Off with TV Changes
The NBA season is back in full swing, and this year there are some big changes in store for fans tuning in at home. With NBC returning as a broadcast partner for the first time in over two decades, they’re bringing back the iconic “Roundball Rock” theme music for a nostalgic touch.
Amazon Prime Video is stepping onto the court as well, hiring former Turner Sports broadcasters to join their team. ESPN is also in the mix, taking over the reins of “Inside the NBA,” the beloved studio show that fans can’t get enough of.
As we gear up for a new NBA season kicking off on Tuesday night, there’s a lot to keep an eye on. A massive $76 billion TV deal is in place, which means fans might need a little help figuring out where to catch all the action. Luckily, NBC Sports executive producer Sam Flood has assured us that they’ll be working together with Amazon and ESPN to make sure fans know where to find all the great NBA games.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what to expect: Peacock will have games on Mondays, NBC and Peacock will share Tuesdays, ESPN takes over Wednesdays, and Prime Video will be your go-to on Fridays. As we move into the middle of the season, Prime will start offering more games on Thursdays, with Saturdays split between ABC, ESPN, and Prime. Sundays will feature a mix of games from ABC, ESPN, NBC, and Peacock.
But that’s not all. The NBA is rolling out some cool new features this season, like having analysts seated near the team benches instead of next to the play-by-play broadcasters. They’re also making updates to the NBA app, offering scores in real-time with live clocks and minimal delays.
To make things easier for fans, the league has launched a new digital initiative called “Tap to Watch.” This will help direct fans to live NBA games on various platforms, including ABC/ESPN, NBC/Peacock, and Prime Video. So, you’ll never have to guess where to find your favorite teams in action.
For the opening night doubleheader on Tuesday, we’ll see the Houston Rockets facing off against the Oklahoma City Thunder followed by the Los Angeles Lakers taking on the Golden State Warriors. And it looks like Michael Jordan will be joining NBC as a special contributor, adding some extra star power to the mix.
With ABC and ESPN continuing to air the top games, including the NBA Finals, fans can expect nearly 100 regular-season games on each network. NBC will also be airing games on Sundays once the NFL season wraps up, making sure you’re covered all week long.
So, get ready to cheer on your favorite teams and players as the new NBA season tips off with some exciting changes for TV viewers. It’s going to be a slam dunk of a season!
