Arizona State retires Daccord’s jersey number
Joey Daccord has left a lasting mark on Sun Devil hockey history. The goalie, who now plays for the Seattle Kraken, had his jersey number retired by Arizona State University in a heartfelt ceremony before their game against Penn State at Mullett Arena in Arizona.
In a touching moment, Daccord stood on the ice with his parents and brother as his No. 35 was raised to the rafters. He became the first player in the program’s history to receive this honor, a truly special moment for him and his family.
Daccord spent three seasons playing for the Sun Devils from 2016-2019, during which he was recognized as a Hobey Baker Finalist and Mike Richter Award Finalist in 2019. Following his time at Arizona State, he made history by becoming the first player from the program to sign an NHL contract, joining the Ottawa Senators in April 2019.
In a recent turn of events, Daccord was selected by the Seattle Kraken during the NHL expansion draft in 2021, solidifying his legacy in the world of hockey. His dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed, and it’s clear that he has made a lasting impact on the Sun Devil community.
