Hulu to Launch on Disney Plus Globally: Release Date and Details

Disney has some big news for all you streaming fans: Hulu is merging into Disney Plus! In 2024, Disney started bringing Hulu content over to Disney Plus, and in 2026, they’re combining the two services into a whole new app. One major change in this merger is the rebranding of Star to Hulu. This transition is set to take place internationally next week, on October 8th, and for Australia and New Zealand on October 9th.

Now, don’t worry if you’re a Hulu fan in the U.S.—the Hulu app will still be available there. But overseas, Star content will become Hulu content. Along with this switch, Disney is making some updates to the Disney Plus app.

One of the most noticeable changes will be the switch from a Star tile to a Hulu tile in international markets. With this change, Disney is working to showcase more Hulu content and make it easier to find. To achieve this, they’re updating the For You tab on the Disney Plus homepage with a new algorithm for better recommendations. Additionally, there will be a new Live hub for seamless access to live sports, news, and events, along with live streams of Disney networks.

Also, keep an eye out for a revamped home page with an updated hero carousel featuring videos and artwork. Disney Plus will now label content like “Season Finale,” “New Series,” and “New Movie” to help you pick what to watch. And for mobile users, Disney is prepping some “mobile-first and mobile-exclusive experiences,” although details on that are still hush-hush.

It’s important to note that these updates are happening alongside a price increase for Hulu and Disney Plus starting on October 21st. Most plans will go up by $2 a month, so if you’re not already signed up, now’s the time to do it before prices go up.

Exciting changes are coming to Disney Plus with the Hulu rebrand, so stay tuned and start streaming!
