Outfest Revitalized: LGBTQ Film Festival Announces New Staff, Board, and Screening Series

Outfest is making a comeback! After a challenging period marked by staff unionization attempts, layoffs, and lawsuits, the Los Angeles LGBTQ film festival is back on its feet. The organization has elected a new board of directors and re-hired key staff members. They’ve even created a brand new event called OutfestNEXT, in partnership with HBO Max. This exciting four-day screening series is set for November 6-9 and is currently in the final planning stages.

The re-hiring process is in full swing, with new staff members joining in programming, development, communications, and operations. Outfest plans to bring back more key roles as they gear up to relaunch signature programs, like the iconic Outfest Los Angeles and Outfest Fusion BIPOC film program next year.

One notable collaboration during this renewal is Outfest’s close work with Queer Filmworkers United. This partnership stems from the events of September 2023 when Outfest staff members attempted to unionize. While the unionization didn’t go as planned, Outfest is moving forward positively with this pivotal connection.

The organization’s future looks bright, with a renewed commitment to LGBTQ+ storytelling and community building. Stay tuned for more updates on Outfest’s exciting plans for the future!
