HBO Max Strengthens Australian Debut with Prime Video Add-On Launch
HBO Max has had a great start in Australia and is now expanding its reach in the local market by launching on Prime Video as an add-on subscription. This move comes after its initial debut in Australia back in March. Even though some thought the launch might be a bit late, given the already saturated SVOD market, reports suggest that HBO Max has already captured over 5% of the total market.
On Prime Video, you can access HBO Max for A$11.99 a month ($7.82) for the Basic with Ads tier or A$15.99 a month for the Standard package. HBO Max offers a fantastic lineup of shows like The Pitt, And Just Like That…, Peacemaker, House of the Dragon, The White Lotus, The Last of Us, as well as classics such as Friends, The Big Bang Theory, and Warner Bros. movies like Minecraft, Sinners, Harry Potter, and DC Universe.
According to Michael Brooks, Managing Director of Warner Bros. Discovery Australia and New Zealand, partnering with Prime Video was the next logical step for HBO Max in Australia. The successful launch just five months ago has resonated well with Australian audiences, and this partnership with Prime Video will make HBO Max’s premium content even more accessible to Australians.
Warner Bros. Discovery executives are optimistic about the future launches of HBO Max in the UK, Germany, and Italy next year, citing the success of the Australian service. With over 125.7 million streaming subscribers overall, including 3.4 million new customers from international markets, the Australian launch was deemed very successful, with strong retail traction and a partnership with local pay-TV provider Foxtel playing a key role.
Daniel Slepak, Head of Marketplace at Prime Video Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, expressed excitement about welcoming HBO Max as the 27th add-on subscription partner in Australia. This partnership will enhance the entertainment catalog available to Prime Video customers, offering them a wide array of world-class series and blockbuster movies all in one app experience.
