Streaming Service Increases Prices for Select Users
Apple TV+ is making headlines with its first price hike in nearly two years. The popular streaming service is increasing its monthly cost by $3, bringing the new price to $12.99 per month for new U.S. subscribers and select international markets. Existing customers will see the increase reflected in their bills 30 days after their next renewal date.
Don’t worry, though—Apple is keeping the annual subscription price for Apple TV+ the same. The cost of the Apple One bundled subscription service, which includes Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and more, will also remain unchanged.
Apple TV+ has been steadily growing its library of exclusive Apple Originals, offering thousands of hours of premium programming across various genres, all without any pesky ads. Shows like “Severance” and “Ted Lasso” have been fan favorites, but even with these hits, Apple TV+ still lags behind competitors like Netflix and Disney+ in terms of subscriber numbers.
According to analysts, Apple TV+ had around 40 million subscribers by the end of 2024, while Netflix boasted over 300 million in the same period. Despite its popularity, Apple is reportedly losing over $1 billion annually on the streaming service.
To attract more subscribers, Apple recently made Apple TV+ available on Android phones. This move follows a trend in the industry, with Peacock also raising its prices by $3 for its premium plus and ad-supported plans earlier this year.
So, if you’re a fan of Apple TV+, be prepared for a slight increase in your monthly bill, but rest assured that you’re getting access to a growing library of top-notch content.
