Monsters: Ed Gein Story Season 3 – Everything You Need to Know

Production has wrapped up for season 3 of Monsters, with the series set to make a return in October 2025. This season, titled Monsters: The Ed Gein Story, is currently in post-production. Charlie Hunnam takes on the lead role as Ed Gein, with Laurie Metcalf, Tom Hollander, Olivia Williams, and Vicky Krieps also starring in the series.

Monsters: The Ed Gein Story is the third installment of the Netflix Original anthology created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, produced by Ryan Murphy Productions and Prospect Films.

The season delves into the life of Ed Gein, known as the “Butcher of Plainfield,” whose gruesome crimes in the 1950s inspired iconic horror characters like Norman Bates in Psycho and Leatherface in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Gein was convicted of murder and grave robbing, with the story exploring his isolated upbringing and fixation on his mother Augusta.

The cast includes Charlie Hunnam as Ed Gein, Laurie Metcalf as Augusta Gein (Gein’s mother), Tom Hollander as Alfred Hitchcock, and Olivia Williams as Alma Reville. Additional cast members include Vicky Krieps, Charlie Hall, Addison Rae, Suzanna Son, and Emma Halleen.

Carl Franklin returns to direct the Ed Gein season, with Max Winkler also expected to helm episodes this season. Filming for the series took place in Los Angeles, California, and Chicago, Illinois, with principal photography wrapping up in spring 2025.

The eight episode titles for Monsters: The Ed Gein Story have been revealed, including “Buxom Bird,” “Green,” “Mother,” “Ice,” “Sick as You Secrets,” and more.

Despite rumors of a delay to 2026, Ryan Murphy has hinted at an October 2025 release for Monsters: The Ed Gein Story. And even though Ryan Murphy is moving to Disney, a fourth season of Monsters is in the works, focusing on the Lizzie Borden murders.
