Apple TV’s Matt Cherniss Discusses ‘Studio’ and ‘Severance’ Emmy Nominations
In exciting news from Apple TV+, their streaming service has received a record number of Emmy nominations for the second year in a row. The big highlight this year was Ron Howard and Martin Scorsese landing their first Emmy nominations for acting in The Studio, playing themselves. It’s a fun fact that we can chat about over dinner, but according to Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss, it’s all thanks to the team effort.
Cherniss expressed his excitement by saying, “I am not going to take credit. That’s a team decision here, but the fact that they did get those nominations is just fantastic. I mean, we’re fans ourselves here, so to see people like that, who we love to work with and are obviously legends in the business, have a little part of that is great.”
The nominations for The Studio didn’t stop there. With a total of 23 nods, the show set a record for a first-year comedy series, tying The Bear’s overall comedy record set the previous year. Although 23 nominations are impressive, it wasn’t the highest this year. Season two of Severance took the lead with 27 nominations, making it the top show across the entire field.
Apple TV+ garnered a whopping 81 Emmy nominations this year, up from 72 last year. Beyond The Studio and Severance, 12 other series from the platform also received nominations. Cherniss remarked, “To have 14 shows get acknowledged is really a testament to everyone involved in those series. It was great to see Brian Tyree Henry nominated for Dope Thief. Presumed Innocent is another show I wanted to mention that really stood out.” The strong showing is a true win for Apple TV+ and the talented actors and creators behind these remarkable series.
