“Shape of You” Becomes Top-Played Song on Apple Music
Apple Music recently celebrated its 10th year anniversary by releasing its list of the top 500 most-streamed songs on their platform. The incredibly catchy “Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran took the number one spot, having spent a whopping 1,800 days at the top of Apple Music’s Top Pop Songs chart in at least one country over the past decade. Additionally, the song also reached number one on the platform’s all-genre songs chart over 1,000 days. Since its release in 2017, “Shape of You” has been breaking records left and right, starting with its title as the streamer’s biggest pop song debut in terms of first-day streams worldwide.
Not far behind Sheeran’s hit was The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” which secured the second slot on the list. This song had a solid presence, spending more than 180 days in the top 10 of Apple Music’s Global Daily Top 100 chart. The Weeknd actually had a total of nine songs on the top 500 list. Coming in at number three was Drake with his song “God’s Plan,” one of his 27 entries on the list. Interestingly, Drake had the most songs featured on the top 500 list and also held the record for the most top 100 entries by any artist.
Not to be outdone, Post Malone grabbed both the fourth and fifth spots on Apple Music’s list with “Sunflower” featuring Swae Lee from the Spider-man: Into the Spiderverse soundtrack and “Rockstar” featuring 21 Savage. It’s clear that these artists have made a lasting impact on Apple Music’s platform with their chart-topping hits that listeners have been playing on repeat.
