NASA’s Next Frontier: Collaboration with Netflix for Streaming
Netflix, known for its popular dramas like “Squid Game” and live boxing matches, is now venturing into a whole new territory with live rocket launches from NASA. This exciting collaboration between the streaming giant and the space agency will bring viewers up close to the action, including views of Earth from the International Space Station, right from the comfort of their living rooms.
NASA and Netflix are teaming up to create NASA+, a streaming service that will feature rocket launches, astronaut space walks, and mission coverage. This new content is set to launch on the Los Gatos, Calif.-based platform this summer. The best part? It’s completely ad-free!
According to Rebecca Sirmons, the general manager of NASA+, the goal of this partnership is to inspire and educate audiences about space exploration, in line with NASA’s mission to reach as many people as possible. The non-exclusive agreement between NASA and Netflix did not involve any financial transactions, highlighting the shared commitment to bringing the wonders of space to a global audience.
With Netflix’s focus on educational programming, including documentaries and family-friendly shows like “Sesame Street” and “Ms. Rachel,” NASA+ content will be a seamless addition to its lineup. The streaming service has been expanding its children’s programming to cater to a wide range of viewers, with over 301 million subscribers worldwide and an audience of more than 700 million people.
While NASA+ will remain free to access on the NASA website and app, the partnership with Netflix opens up new opportunities for space-related nonfiction programming. From Imax museum documentaries to public broadcasting classics like NOVA, space enthusiasts will have even more ways to explore the final frontier from the comfort of their couch.
In a world where streaming entertainment is constantly evolving, this collaboration between NASA and Netflix marks a new chapter in how we experience and engage with the wonders of space exploration. Stay tuned for more updates as NASA+ launches on Netflix this summer!
