Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey Comedy Series on Apple TV+ Delayed Due to Showrunner Departure

Production of the Apple TV+ comedy series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson hit a snag recently, causing filming to be suspended in Austin, Texas. The cast, including Holland Taylor, Natalie Martinez, and Brittany Ishibashi, had to pack up and head home. There were creative differences that led to former showrunner David West Read leaving the production right before the season’s end. Lee Eisenberg is now in talks to take over showrunner duties for the final two episodes and likely reshoots.
The show itself is a half-hour comedy that features McConaughey and Harrelson playing themselves as they navigate living on McConaughey’s Texas ranch. Announced more than two years ago, the series focuses on exploring the unique bond between the two actors in a heartfelt odd couple love story.
Read was initially the show’s creator and served as an executive producer alongside McConaughey, Harrelson, and others. Oona Yaffe, Highdee Kuan, and more are set to star as McConaughey and Harrelson’s children in the series. Read has an impressive background, having worked on stage musicals, Schitt’s Creek, and adapted novels for TV.
Eisenberg, on the other hand, has worked on various Apple TV+ projects before and is now potentially stepping into the showrunner role for the last episodes of this series. This collaboration between McConaughey and Harrelson marks another chapter in their long list of joint projects, from films to TV shows and commercials. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting series!
