LGBTQ Critics Recognize ‘Andor,’ ‘Severance,’ ‘The White Lotus,’ ‘Overcompensating,’ and ‘Hacks’

The Dorian TV Awards nominations are out, and it’s no surprise that fan favorites like Andor, Hacks, Severance, and The White Lotus are leading the pack with six nods each. The Last of Us, Overcompensating, and The Pitt are close behind with five nominations apiece. The competition is tough, but these shows have definitely made their mark.

The GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics, with its 560 members, is known for recognizing the best in mainstream and LGBTQ+ content. Voters in this organization come from some of the most respected media outlets in the industry, making their choices even more significant.

In the Best Drama category, we have some fantastic contenders. Severance, a twisty and surreal office drama on Apple TV+, is up against the Disney Plus Star Wars spinoff Andor and HBO/Max’s outrageous hotel drama The White Lotus. Both The Pitt and The Last of Us, also from HBO/Max, are giving them a run for their money with five nominations each.

On the comedy side, Hacks from HBO/Max, which won last year’s Dorian Award, is back in the running with six nominations. Somebody Somewhere and Abbott Elementary are also in the mix, along with newcomers like Apple TV+’s The Studio and HBO/Max’s The Rehearsal. These shows are all about self-discovery and pushing boundaries, resonating with audiences in a special way.

Familiar faces like Beyoncé, Jean Smart, and Walton Goggins are competing with up-and-coming stars like Ncuti Gatwa and Katherine LaNasa in the performance categories. The Best Unsung TV Show award highlights series that deserve more attention, with shows like Fantasmas, Evil, and Overcompensating getting their moment in the spotlight.

The Campiest TV Show award is always a fun one, with contenders like Mid-Century Modern, The Traitors, Overcompensating, Doctor Odyssey, and RuPaul’s Drag Race vying for the top spot. HBO/Max leads the pack with 39 nominations, followed by Netflix with 22.

Stay tuned for the winners to be announced on July 8th at 8 am PST. It’s going to be an exciting event for all the TV fans out there!
