Hulu Movie Adds Major Predator Lore to Canon
The Predator franchise has been captivating audiences since 1987, but one burning question has lingered unanswered until now: what is the species name of the Predators themselves? These formidable aliens have been the focus of multiple films, including crossovers with the Alien franchise. However, it’s not until Hulu’s new animated film Predator: Killer of Killers that we finally learn the crucial detail: the Predator species are known as the Yautja.
Predator: Killer of Killers dives deep into Predator lore by following three warriors from different eras, each facing off against a Yautja warrior and eventually brought together for a high-stakes tournament on an alien battleworld. The opening sequence sets the stage with a philosophical insight into the Predators’ hunt for the strongest prey, revealing the Yautja Codex.
While this movie marks the first time the Yautja name is officially mentioned on screen, it’s not entirely new to dedicated fans. The term “Yautja” first appeared in a 1994 novel and has since circulated in novelizations, fan forums, and even recent comic book story arcs by Marvel Comics. With the upcoming traditional Predator film, Predator: Badlands, and the connections established in previous films like Prey, director Dan Trachtenberg is on a mission to expand the Predator universe into an epic saga.
If you’re eager to uncover more about the Yautja and the Predator world, don’t miss Predator: Killer of Killers on Hulu and mark your calendars for the theatrical release of Predator: Badlands.
