Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune Strike Next-Day Streaming Agreement with Hulu and Peacock

Hulu, Peacock, and Hulu on Disney+ are about to get a major upgrade. “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune” are making their way to these streaming platforms for the first time ever. That’s right, in-season syndicated episodes of these beloved game shows will be available to stream in the U.S. starting this September. This awesome news comes as part of a multi-year, co-exclusive, national next-day streaming licensing deal between Sony Pictures Television, The Walt Disney Company, and NBCUniversal.

Get ready to binge-watch because both shows will start streaming with the premiere of “Jeopardy!” Season 42 and “Wheel of Fortune” Season 43. Keith Le Goy, chairman of Sony Pictures Television, shared his excitement about the move, saying, “We are thrilled to bring America’s favorite game shows to an even wider audience on Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, and Peacock. ‘Jeopardy!’ and ‘Wheel of Fortune’ are two of the most successful game shows in television history, and we look forward to giving fans the best possible streaming access to our shows this fall.”

Behind the scenes, Sony Pictures TV and CBS have been tangled up in a breach-of-contract dispute over linear distribution rights since last October. Sony sued CBS, claiming that CBS owed them money from their past distribution deals and breached their contract by making overseas licensing deals. CBS fired back with a countersuit, arguing that they have the distribution rights to both shows forever. Even though Sony was granted the rights to distribute the game shows in April, that decision got overturned by the California Court of Appeals in late May, once again giving CBS the distribution rights.

It’s important to note that the ongoing legal battle between Sony Pictures Television and CBS is separate from the streaming platform distribution rights that Sony has been working out with Hulu, Peacock, and Hulu on Disney+. So, get ready to test your knowledge and solve puzzles from the comfort of your own home when “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune” start streaming this fall.
