“Sesame Street Now Available on Netflix”
“Sesame Street” is making a big move to Netflix, launching its 56th season globally later this year. Warner Bros. Discovery decided not to renew its contract, so the show is shifting from HBO Max to Netflix. But don’t worry, PBS will still air it, ensuring that everyone has free access to this beloved children’s program.
“For more than a half a century, ‘Sesame Street’ has been a beloved cornerstone of children’s media, enchanting young minds and nurturing a love of learning,” a press release stated. Now, Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, and all their friends are coming to Netflix, with the all-new 56th season and 90 hours of previous episodes available worldwide.
The new season on Netflix will bring some fresh changes, including the return of fan-favorite segments like Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck. Episodes will now focus on one 11-minute story, allowing for more character-driven humor and heart.
Even though there have been federal funding cuts for PBS and NPR, “Sesame Street” will still be available on PBS. PBS president and chief executive Paula Kerger emphasized the importance of educational programming for children and the critical role of “Sesame Street” in that work for over 50 years.
Sesame Workshop, the organization behind the show, is excited about combining their research-based curriculum with Netflix’s global reach. This partnership ensures that children across the U.S. will continue to have free access to the “Sesame Street” they love on public television.
Netflix sees the acquisition of “Sesame Street” as a major win, with the announcement featuring Cookie Monster devouring the Netflix logo and declaring, “N IS FOR NETFLIX!” This deal comes as a lifeline for the beloved children’s TV show after recent decisions by HBO and Max not to renew their contract.
With the new home on Netflix, “Sesame Street” is set to continue its legacy of educating and entertaining children for years to come. So get ready to learn and laugh with Elmo and friends in the new 56th season, coming soon to a screen near you!
