Former Police Constable Jailed for Unethical Relationship Barred from Policing Forever
A police constable based in Market Drayton, Nicholas Peacock, was recently informed that he can never work in policing again due to his misconduct of having an inappropriate relationship with a witness. Last year, Peacock, aged 40, was sentenced to 18 months in jail after admitting to the misconduct, which occurred between February and April 2022.
At an accelerated misconduct hearing, it was established that Peacock would have been dismissed if he had not already resigned. The panel heard that he failed to disclose a business interest and engaged in paid employment while on suspension, actions that were not authorized by the Chief Constable and went against the force’s policy on business interests.
Deputy Chief Constable Rachel Jones stated that despite Peacock’s resignation from the force, disciplinary proceedings were pursued to ensure he cannot work in policing again. The actions of Peacock were deemed dishonest and lacking integrity, which are not tolerated within the police force.
Following the hearing, it was decided that Peacock will be added to the College of Policing Barred List, effectively banning him from any future involvement in policing. The spokesperson for West Mercia Police highlighted that this swift action was taken to ensure he was barred at the earliest opportunity, considering that Peacock had resigned from the force in March 2024 and had not been a serving officer for more than 12 months.
This case serves as a reminder of the strict standards and expectations held within the police force, emphasizing the importance of integrity and upholding ethical conduct in all interactions.
