BioShock Director Optimistic About Netflix Movie Adaptation

Francis Lawrence, director of the planned Netflix movie adaptation of the popular video game franchise BioShock, recently shared some updates on the project. Despite some setbacks, Lawrence remains optimistic about the development of the film.

In a recent interview, Lawrence mentioned that a new draft of the screenplay was just completed, with writer Justin Rhodes at the helm. Previous drafts were penned by Michael Green, known for his work on films like Logan and Blade Runner 2049. Development was briefly paused during the Writers Guild strike in 2023, but now the project is back on track.

Lawrence admitted that bringing BioShock to the big screen has been a challenge, but he is confident in the progress being made. He mentioned that there have been some changes in leadership at Netflix, causing some delays and restarts in the process. However, Lawrence believes they are currently in a good place in terms of moving forward with the film.

Producer Roy Lee also noted that the film has been “reconfigured” to fit within a smaller budget. This adjustment may mean that certain elements from the game, like the iconic underwater city of Rapture, could be scaled back due to cost considerations.

Despite these challenges, Lawrence has reassured fans that the movie will stay true to the essence of the BioShock games. Details about the project are still scarce, but it is known that BioShock creator Ken Levine and Take-Two Interactive are involved in the adaptation.

If the BioShock movie does come to fruition, actor Jack Quaid from “The Boys” has expressed interest in being a part of the project. With all these developments in the works, fans of the franchise have a lot to look forward to in the coming months.
