When You Left Me for Dead: Watch the ‘We Were Liars’ Trailer for Similarities to ‘Pretty Little Liars’
Emily Alyn Lind is taking the lead in a new thriller series on Prime Video called We Were Liars. Based on E. Lockhart’s novel from 2014, the show has just released its official teaser trailer. The vibe of the trailer may remind fans of the popular series Pretty Little Liars, but the actual storyline is quite different.
The teaser introduces us to a summer vacation setting that quickly takes a dark turn. The show is co-showrun by Julie Plec of The Vampire Diaries and Carina Adly MacKenzie of The Originals. Emily Alyn Lind narrates the teaser, setting the stage on Beechwood Island, near Martha’s Vineyard, where the wealthy Sinclair family resides.
The series follows Cadence Sinclair, played by Lind, along with a group of teenagers, as they navigate a traumatic event and its aftermath. Cadence suffers from memory loss after an accident, leaving her searching for answers about what happened. The show dives into relationships and mysteries that unfold as Cadence returns to the island and faces her past.
We Were Liars might bring back memories of Pretty Little Liars, another show following a group of friends dealing with secrets and a life-changing event. However, We Were Liars has a darker tone than Pretty Little Liars and promises to deliver a more emotionally intense story.
The cast of the new series includes Caitlin Fitzgerald, Mamie Gummer, Candice King, Rahul Kohli, and David Morse, among others. Fans can catch all eight episodes of We Were Liars on Prime Video starting June 18, 2025.
