Newport Drama ‘The Gilded Age’ Debuts in June: Key Details
“The Gilded Age,” the Newport-based drama from creator Julian Fellowes, is set to premiere its third season on June 22 at 9 p.m. on HBO and HBO Max. This eight-episode season will continue to explore the clashes between old and new money in 1880s New York high society, with occasional glimpses into the luxurious world of Newport, the summer hotspot for the elite.
Exciting new additions to the cast include three characters who are wealthy Black residents of Newport. Phylicia Rashad will portray Mrs. Elizabeth Kirkland, a member of a prominent Newport family with deep roots tracing back to the American Revolution. Brian Stokes Mitchell plays her husband, Frederick Kirkland, a respected community leader and pastor of a prominent Black church in Newport. Jordan Donica takes on the role of Dr. William Kirkland, their accomplished son who pursued a career in medicine after a childhood encounter with pharmacist Arthur Scott, father of Peggy Scott played by series star Denée Benton.
