Happy Face Season 2: What to Expect

The popular Paramount+ series “Happy Face” has left fans wondering if there will be a season 2. While the show has not yet been officially renewed, the season 1 finale definitely left viewers wanting more. Spoiler alert: In the final episode, serial killer Keith Hunter Jesperson (played by Dennis Quaid) learns that his son-in-law Ben (James Wolk) tried to have him killed in prison. Although Keith survives a heart attack before the plan can be carried out, he confronts Ben about the murder-for-hire plot, hinting at unresolved tensions between them and Keith’s daughter, Melissa (Annaleigh Ashford).

According to series creator Jennifer Cacicio, the real Melissa G. Moore, whose life inspired the show, has already teased potential storylines for a second season. “Melissa’s been like, ‘Oh, if we get a season 2, I have so many stories for you,’” Cacicio shared with Us Weekly. It seems there is more to explore with these characters and the world of true crime.

Even Dennis Quaid seems ready for more. He mentioned that the real Keith Jesperson has claimed responsibility for more than the confirmed eight murders, hinting at a possibly deeper, darker story waiting to be told. Quaid expressed his interest in further exploring this complex character and his crimes.

For those unfamiliar, Keith Hunter Jesperson, now 70 years old, earned the nickname “Happy Face Killer” for the smiley faces he drew on letters to the media and law enforcement. He was convicted of killing at least eight women between 1990 and 1995, though he has confessed to more. Currently serving life sentences in Oregon, Jesperson’s story is a chilling tale of true crime.

Melissa G. Moore, who was just 16 when her father was arrested, has admitted that her father may not be pleased with how he is portrayed in the series. She anticipated his reaction, stating, “I think he’s going to feel a sense of betrayal that he’s not the hero of this story.”

For those eager to catch up on the show, “Happy Face” is available for streaming on Paramount+. So, stay tuned for updates on a possible season 2 and more thrilling true crime drama.
