Sasson Gabay Talks Season 3 of Tehran: Insights and Updates

I recently had the privilege of chatting with Sasson Gabay, the iconic Israeli actor who had a fantastic TV year in 2024. He not only starred in the “Shtisel” prequel called “Kugel,” but also had a significant guest role in season three of the popular spy thriller “Tehran.”

We mainly focused on “Kugel,” which you can catch on the Israeli platform IZZY with its eight episodes ready to stream. However, Gabay was equally excited to discuss his involvement in “Tehran,” the hit Apple TV+ and Kan 11 production, which aired in December 2024 on the Israeli channel but is not yet available for streaming on Apple TV+.

In the latest season of “Tehran,” Gabay portrays an Iranian Jew living and working in Tehran who collaborates with the Mossad. Initially sent to take down Tamar, the protagonist, his character ends up teaming up with her and becomes her buddy throughout the season. Gabay formed a close bond with Niv Sultan, who plays Tamar, on set while shooting overseas. Sultan appreciated having a partner to work with, which was a first for her.

Although the show has received a lot of love from fans and reviewers, there’s still no word on when season three will be available for streaming on Apple TV+. Despite some delays due to creative changes for season four, the show premiered on KAN channel on Dec. 9, 2024. Additionally, “Tehran” welcomed Hugh Laurie as a guest star playing Eric Peterson, a South African nuclear supervisor, after he fell in love with the show and eagerly accepted the role without even reading the script.

While we eagerly await news about the availability of season three on Apple TV+ and the potential production of season four, there are other Israeli shows to look forward to. “Bad Boy” is set to premiere on Netflix in May, and “Fauda” season five is already in production. Unfortunately, there’s still no update on when American audiences will get to watch season three of “Tehran.”
