2025 Public Opening of Peacock Railway Draws Crowds in Willaston

Hundreds of people gathered at the Peacock Railway in Willaston for its first public running day of 2025. The miniature-gauge railway, nestled behind The Peacock Inn on Crewe Road, is maintained by the South Cheshire Model Engineering Society. Visitors of all ages were delighted to ride miniature steam and battery-electric trains along the 5-inch track. To add to the excitement, guests had the opportunity to control remote-operated Gauge 1 trains, showcasing the longest raised Gauge 1 layout in the North-West at 95 meters in length.

Inside the clubhouse, visitors explored exhibits ranging from steam lorries to marine engines, with helpful tips for those interested in starting their own Gauge 1 railways. A spokesperson for The Peacock Railway expressed their enthusiasm for the fantastic turnout and thanked all attendees for their support. Society members have put in significant effort to spruce up the site over the winter, including new fencing, improved kitchen facilities, and ongoing maintenance for the trains and tracks.

The Peacock Railway will continue to welcome visitors on Easter Sunday, with regular openings on the first Sunday of each month and special midweek events in August.
