Netflix Explores Live Channels and Streaming Bundles Amid Decreasing Engagement
Netflix is looking into new ways to keep viewers engaged as some of its biggest hits face declining viewership. According to the Wall Street Journal, the streaming giant’s executives are considering the introduction of themed live channels that would stream shows or films of a specific genre, a nod back to the linear TV model that Netflix helped to revolutionize with streaming over a decade ago. Additionally, Netflix is reportedly exploring the option of bundling other streaming services, such as Peacock, into its offerings, following the footsteps of Prime Video and Apple TV+.
Shows like “The Four Seasons,” “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” “Running Point,” “One Piece,” and “Beef” have seen decreases in viewership in their second seasons, prompting Netflix to seek renewed interest through creative strategies like live channels and new subscription bundling.
In recent years, Netflix has expanded beyond its traditional on-demand offerings by venturing into live programming, licensed video podcasts, and collaborations with social media creators. Their cheaper, ad-supported subscription tier, introduced in 2022, has also been a hit with subscribers.
While some series are experiencing viewership declines, Netflix continues to find success with creator-driven content like “Ms. Rachel,” which ranked as the seventh most-watched series on Netflix in the first half of 2025. They also excel in the limited series genre, with shows like Harlan Coben’s “I Will Find You” breaking records for the streamer.
By diversifying their content offerings and exploring new formats like live programming and bundled subscriptions, Netflix aims to capture and retain audience attention in a crowded streaming landscape.
