FMERA Executive Director Resigns to Join Netflix

Kara Kopach, who has been leading the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) since 2022, is stepping down from her role as executive director and secretary to take on a new position at Netflix. Starting July 1, she will join Netflix Studios Fort Monmouth as the manager of studio operations.

The FMERA board has appointed Laura Drahushak, the managing director, as the interim executive director and secretary until a permanent replacement is named at their annual reorganization meeting in September.

Netflix purchased 292 acres of the former U.S. Army base for $55 million and has been making strides in the development process. They broke ground on Netflix Studios Fort Monmouth in May 2025, with plans to open Phase 1 of the studios next year and Phase 2 in 2028. They recently celebrated the construction of the first four out of 12 planned soundstages with a ceremony on the property.

Kara Kopach, who has been with FMERA since 2015, has been an integral part of the authority’s redevelopment efforts. She expressed gratitude to various officials and community members for their support and trust in FMERA’s mission.

Following her resignation announcement, Eatontown Mayor Anthony Talerico Jr. declared June 17 “Kara Kopach Day” in Eatontown, praising her problem-solving skills, environmental stewardship, and leadership in complex real estate transactions. Oceanport Mayor Tom Tvrdik also commended Kopach for her achievements and noted the significant impact she has made during her time with FMERA.

Kopach’s departure marks a significant transition for FMERA, but the board is confident in the team’s ability to continue the important work of revitalizing the Fort Monmouth area. The community looks forward to welcoming Netflix Studios Fort Monmouth and the opportunities it will bring to the local area.
