Hulu to Stream Americana Western Film with Sydney Sweeney on June 26

Hulu is gearing up to add exciting new titles to their streaming library, and one of the highlights is “Americana,” a neo-Western crime thriller from 2023 starring Sydney Sweeney, Paul Walter Hauser, Halsey, and more.

Originally debuting at the 2023 South by Southwest Film & TV Festival, “Americana” didn’t hit theaters until August 15, 2025. While it didn’t perform well at the box office, critics praised its content.

If you’re eager to catch “Americana” on Hulu, mark your calendars for this Friday, June 26, when the Lionsgate-produced film will be available for streaming. Alongside “Americana,” Hulu will also be welcoming titles like CMA Fest presented by SoFi and “Queens of the Dead” from 2025 on the same day.

Set in a small South Dakota town, “Americana” revolves around the Ghost Shirt, a significant artifact to the Indigenous Lakota residents of the area. The storyline delves into a conflict between characters vying for control of this powerful relic.

In the film, Sydney Sweeney portrays Penny Jo Poplin, a waitress with big dreams of becoming a country singer, while Paul Walter Hauser plays the role of a struggling military veteran named Lefty Ledbetter. Halsey takes on the character of Mandy Starr, a young mother trapped in an abusive relationship with Dillon MacIntosh, portrayed by the late Eric Dane in one of his final roles.

The main cast is rounded out by talented actors including Simon Rex, Toby Huss, Zahn McClarnon, Donald Cerrone, Joe Adler, Gavin Maddox Bergman, Harriet Sansom Harris, and Derek Hinkey.

Despite a disappointing box office debut, “Americana” found a silver lining with critics. The film boasts a 62% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metacritic score of 61 out of 100, signifying a generally positive reception.

While some critics, like Johnny Oleksinski of the New York Post, were less enthusiastic about the film, others like Deadline, IndieWire, and Men’s Journal’s Declan Gallagher had more favorable opinions. Gallagher called “Americana” a “must-see” despite its lackluster box office performance, praising its unique style and storyline.
