Keir Starmer calls for free broadcast of Champions League final

Keir Starmer, the UK Prime Minister and a devoted Arsenal fan, has stepped in to call on TNT Sports to make the upcoming Champions League final between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain free to watch. TNT holds the broadcast rights for the Champions League in the UK, but this year’s final will only be available to stream on their platform or HBO Max, both of which require a subscription.

This decision has caused disappointment among football fans, as it marks the first time since the inception of the Champions League in 1992 that the final won’t be accessible for free. Previously, the final was aired on ITV and later streamed for free by BT Sport and TNT Sports.

In a letter addressed to TNT, Starmer emphasized the significance of the Champions League final to football fans in the UK, regardless of which teams are playing. He stressed the importance of keeping the final free to watch, highlighting that hard-working people should not have to pay for a subscription to enjoy such a prestigious event.

On the other hand, TNT Sports defended their decision, mentioning that they have offered all three UEFA finals this year for just £4.99, the price of a monthly HBO Max subscription. They expressed pride in supporting English football and bringing Uefa club competitions to fans throughout the season.
