Jennifer Aniston Cast in Apple TV+ Series “I’m Glad My Mom Died” Adaptation
Apple has given the green light to a new dramedy series starring and executive produced by Jennifer Aniston, based on Jennette McCurdy’s life. McCurdy, known for her role in “iCarly,” will write and showrun the series, adapting her bestselling memoir, “I’m Glad My Mom Died.” The show will delve into her experiences as a child actor and her complicated relationship with her overbearing mother. The series is set to have ten episodes, as per the official logline, it will be a mix of heartbreak and humor, recounting McCurdy’s struggles as a former child actor while coping with her dominating mother, played by Aniston. The story will revolve around the codependent relationship between an 18-year-old actress on a popular kids’ show and her self-absorbed mother, who embraces her identity as a ‘starlet’s mother’.
McCurdy has appeared in various TV shows and movies in addition to her work on Nickelodeon’s “iCarly.” Her memoir, “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” published in 2022 by Simon & Schuster, became a New York Times bestseller and maintained its position at the top for over a year.
The series will be written and showrun by McCurdy and Ari Katcher (“Ramy,” “Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show”). Aniston will not only star in but also executive produce the series through Echo Films. Other executive producers include Dani Gorin, Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara for LuckyChap, Jerrod Carmichael, Erica Kay, Sharon Horgan, and Stacy Greenberg for Merman. Apple Studios will handle production.
Jennifer Aniston’s involvement in this project adds to her existing work on Apple TV+’s hit drama “The Morning Show,” which is gearing up for its fourth season in September. Aniston has received both acting Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her role in the show.
This collaboration is also a continuation of the successful partnership between Horgan and Apple. The second season of the “Bad Sisters” series, previously developed by Horgan for Apple, premiered towards the end of 2024.
