Paramount Removes ‘South Park’ Episode from Streaming Platforms

Recently, South Park fans in Canada and Australia were surprised to find that an important episode featuring Butters was missing from Paramount+. It seems like some mysterious Puerto Rican guy must have been at it again. As the clock winds down on the South Park streaming contract that divided the comedy between Paramount+ and Max, there’s some drama brewing over the planned consolidation of the South Park catalog by Paramount Global. Last month, Paramount co-Chief Executive Chris McCarthy told shareholders that the entire South Park library would soon be exclusively available on Paramount+, but shortly after, rumors started swirling that Paramount+ might be removing some classic episodes due to content concerns and outside political pressures, particularly as they move closer to a potential sale to Larry Ellison’s entertainment company Skydance.

Although Paramount has not officially confirmed these rumors that some South Park episodes will be removed from the platform, worries about streaming censorship have been on the rise. This concern escalated when a Canadian South Park fan realized that the beloved 2001 episode “Butters’ Very Own Episode” was nowhere to be found on Paramount+.

If Butters’ iconic episode can disappear from streaming, fans are left wondering what other classic episodes might soon follow suit. Just this week, a concerned Canadian Reddit user sounded the alarm, bringing attention to the missing episode and expressing disappointment over its absence. It’s a tough blow for fans who were hoping to rewatch this particular episode.
