Pedro Pascal Considered as Lead for Todd Haynes Film Following Joaquin Phoenix’s Departure

Pedro Pascal is being considered for the lead role in the upcoming movie De Noche, directed by Todd Haynes. Last August, Joaquin Phoenix stepped down from the starring role just days before filming was scheduled to begin in Guadalajara, Mexico. Danny Ramirez is set to co-star in this film that delves into a passionate gay romance during the 1930s.

Produced by Christine Vachon and Pam Koffler for Killer Films, the project has been eyeing Pascal for the lead role since late last year, with his potential involvement only now being made public.

Phoenix initiated the project with Haynes and was involved in its development before his abrupt departure, leaving the movie’s team “devastated.” The reasons for this sudden exit have not been publicly disclosed.

Pascal, who has worked alongside Phoenix in Ari Aster’s Eddington, and was also featured in Materialists and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, is expected to appear in the upcoming series The Mandalorian and Grogu. He received an Emmy nomination this year for his role in HBO’s The Last of Us.

Haynes, known for his past work on Netflix’s May December, starring Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman, continues to evolve his cinematic style with each project, drawing critical acclaim and nominations.
