Building a Home based on Frank Lloyd Wright’s Final Plans: New TV Series

A brand new Magnolia Network series is set to premiere on September 3rd, following a mother-daughter duo as they bring to life a home based on the final plans of renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Named “The Last Wright: Building the Final Home Design of America’s Greatest Architect,” this exciting series will be available for streaming on HBO Max the day after it premieres.

Debbie Dykstra and Sarah Dykstra embarked on the journey of building RiverRock near Cleveland in 2023, a home designed by Wright in 1959 on a specific site before his passing. The design of the house was centered around a poplar tree, which still stands tall on the property today, as noted on the home’s website. Wright specifically called for the use of locally quarried stone in the build, adding a unique touch to the home.

The limited series, comprising four episodes, will showcase the process of blending Wright’s traditional design with modern building codes and materials. Sarah Dykstra acquired the Ohio property in 2018, where a Usonian home designed by Wright for the previous owner, Louis Penfield, already existed. Wright was asked to design a new home for Penfield when the construction of I-90 threatened to disturb the original one.

RiverRock, the result of Wright’s final design, can host up to six guests and is available for rentals. The series “The Last Wright” is being executive produced by Chip and Joanna Gaines, promising an insightful and captivating look at the creation of this remarkable home.
