Top Sports Streaming Platforms: Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney+, Netflix, and Paramount+
The streaming world is abuzz with Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and Netflix leading the charge in sports content, accounting for a whopping 92% of sports offerings on major subscription video on-demand (SVOD) platforms. A recent report by Gracenote, Nielsen’s content data business unit, highlights the significant growth in content across the top five global SVOD services—Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Disney+, Netflix, and Paramount+—with sports programming leading the way.
In the second quarter of 2025, these top streamers collectively added approximately 4,500 new TV shows, movies, and sports titles, reflecting a 5% increase from February to May. Netflix stood out with an impressive 18.2% growth in its content library, surpassing its competitors by a significant margin. Following Netflix, Apple TV+ saw a 3.7% increase, Amazon Prime Video grew by 3.2%, Disney+ by 1.6%, and Paramount+ by 1%. Netflix now boasts 20.1% of the total content available on these platforms, up from 17.9% in the previous quarter, cementing its position as a streaming giant.
Sports content has emerged as a key driver of this growth, expanding by 7.8% across the top five platforms—nearly double the growth rate of movies and slightly ahead of TV programs. Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and Netflix have become the go-to hubs for sports enthusiasts, hosting 92% of all streamed sports programming. This dominance reflects their substantial investments in live sports, from NFL games on Prime Video to ESPN-driven content on Disney+ and Netflix’s growing collection of sports documentaries and live events.
Bill Michels, Chief Product Officer at Gracenote, stated, “In the big picture for SVOD, overall content volume continues to rise, but the CTV apps making this content available continually shift.” Effective content discovery is crucial to helping viewers connect with the entertainment they love and extract the most value from each platform’s offerings.
