Netflix begins construction on production facility at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey

Netflix is making moves on the East Coast by building a new production facility at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey. They’re investing a cool $1 billion into transforming this 292-acre former U.S. Army spot into a top-of-the-line production hub. With plans for 12 soundstages totaling nearly 500,000 square feet, as well as spaces for “film uses and community amenities,” this place is going to be buzzing with activity.

Co-CEO Ted Sarandos said, “Netflix is proud to invest in American innovation and the creative community,” and shared that these studios are expected to create thousands of jobs for New Jersey residents, boosting the local economy by billions and bringing other cultural benefits to the area. The excitement is palpable, and Netflix is committed to continuing their investment in the U.S. and New Jersey in the years to come.

Netflix has been a significant player in the U.S. economy, having already contributed a whopping $125 billion and provided jobs for over 140,000 cast and crew members in the past four years. The journey to securing Fort Monmouth began in 2021 and involved working closely with Eatontown, Oceanport, and Monmouth County to get the necessary approvals for the proposed facility.

The expected timeline for completion is around 13 months for demolition, with a projected opening in 2028. In addition to Fort Monmouth, Netflix recently announced plans to expand their New Mexico production hub. With existing hubs in Los Angeles, London, Madrid, Vancouver, and Toronto, Netflix shows no signs of slowing down as they continue to shape the entertainment landscape.
