Disney and Netflix Achieve Record TV Viewership in January

Disney and Netflix both had a great month in January when it comes to TV usage. According to Nielsen, Disney hit its highest share of viewing in over a year, with 12 percent of all TV use in the United States. That’s their best mark yet! This increase is thanks in part to the College Football Playoff airing on ESPN, which saw all seven games taking the top spots for cable telecasts in January.

Netflix also did well, hitting its best mark so far with 8.6 percent of TV use, putting them in fourth place overall behind YouTube and Paramount. Netflix saw a slight increase from the previous month, coming in at 8.5 percent in December. Hits like Squid Game helped boost their numbers, along with other titles that racked up at least 1 billion minutes of streaming time.

Other companies like Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery also saw gains in their TV usage, with Fox at 7.6 percent (up 0.5 points) and Warner Bros. Discovery at 6.1 percent (up 0.1). It’s clear that streaming services and live sports are driving a lot of viewing habits these days, with Disney and Netflix leading the way in January.
